Cintas (1887-1957), an important art collector and patron, left instructions that part of his property will be used in creating a foundation able to recognize the work of Cuban artists set outside the island. Since 1962 the institution named Cintas Foundation, in honor of the philanthropist and former ambassador tapes. Already in 1963, the first awards were given in the categories of architecture, fine arts and musical composition. In subsequent years other genres, including literature were added. Since then, the Cintas Fellowship has been awarded to more than 300 Cubans. After half a century is the oldest and most prestigious recognition given to Cubans outside the island level.</span></div>

The project presented to the Cintas Fellowship is based on the "investigation of major processes of time and space", in which the three-dimensionality is an important for the study of color and light factor. From Prague, where he lives, after spending a long time in Germany, Aguilera expressed his gratitude to know who was the winner: "Not only because it provides (at the time and economic) development of a work, but because it makes you creators sharing territory with the likes of Luis Cruz Azaceta, Baruj Salinas, José Kozer, Maria Irene Fornes and Carlos Victoria, among others. " That he applied for a scholarship to complete a book of stories, "which in turn will be a reflection on the fascination in some people that philosophers have called the voice of the leader, embodying an idea or delirium."</span></div>

His project is narrative. "I've been working on a book that I could not tell if it's a novel, each chapter has its own independence, or a book of stories intertwined months. " Although he did not receive the prize, he will lead to an end the book in which he works.</span></div>

Desde el 2011, el MDC administra la beca y es el albacea de la colección de la fundación. La presidenta de la institución, Hortensia E. Sampedro, dio a conocer los nombres de los premiados, la noche del sábado 10, fecha de significación histórica para los cubanos, ya que marcó el inicio de la guerra de independencia en 1868.</span></div>

<span style="background-color: black; color: white;">Antes de su fallecimiento, el magnate azucarero y ferroviario Oscar B. Cintas (1887-1957), importante coleccionista de arte y mecenas, dejó instrucciones para que parte de sus bienes se empleara en crear una fundación capaz de reconocer la labor de artistas cubanos establecidos fuera de la isla. Desde 1962 la institución lleva el nombre Cintas Foundation, en honor al filántropo y ex embajador Cintas. Ya en 1963, se entregaron los primeros reconocimientos en las categorías de arquitectura, artes plásticas y composición musical. En años subsiguientes se añadieron otros géneros, como literatura. Desde entonces, la Beca Cintas ha sido concedida a más de 300 cubanos. Medio siglo después es el más antiguo y prestigioso reconocimiento que se entrega a cubanos fuera del ámbito insular.</span></div>

<span style="background-color: black; color: white;">Un jurado integrado por Claire Breukel, Juan Roselione-Valadez, José Carlos Díaz y Jeremy Mikolajczak, director ejecutivo y curador principal del MDC Museum of Art + Design, quien tuvo a su cargo la apertura del evento, seleccionaron la propuesta de Domenech como la más atractiva en artes visuales.</span></div>

<span style="background-color: black; color: white;">El artista expresó a el Nuevo Herald que el “premio tiene un trascendental valor histórico y ganarlo es un honor que lo coloca al lado de importantes figuras que lo han recibido”. Domenech emigró a Estados Unidos en el 2010 y se acaba de graduar del New World School of the Arts del MDC. El proyecto que presentó para la Beca Cintas se basa en la “investigación de procesos mayores de tiempo y espacio”, en los que la tridimensionalidad resulta un factor importante para el estudio del color y la luz. Resalta que “lo mío es la experimentación con las formas y el estudio del espacio y el dinamismo del tiempo”.</span></div>

<span style="background-color: black; color: white;">Los otros finalistas en artes visuales, Harold Batista, Vanessa Díaz, Florencio Gelabert, Antuán Rodríguez y Clara Varas, tenían en exhibición sus obras. Gelabert, que recientemente se mudó a Miami, después de vivir 10 años en Nueva York muestra The Wall (El Muro). Define el conjunto de su plástica a través de una serie de recapitulaciones que se repiten, como “las ruinas extraídas de mi propia imaginación, las referencias de fragmentos arquitectónicos, elementos de la naturaleza como ramas, troncos de árboles y el agua, los pedazos de espejos y sus reflexiones”. Interesante también es la instalación de Vannesa Díaz, artista interdisciplinaria con un enfoque a partir de los objetos desechados y abandonados de la vivienda familiar, para explorar diversos ángulos de la arquitectura que definen un territorio personal. En concreto, su obra parte de un juego de comedor que perteneció a sus abuelos. “Este conjunto lo compraron para su hogar ocho años después que emigraron de Cuba. Para ellos, esta serie de muebles era un símbolo de la nueva familia que comenzaron, de ser resueltos y de tener éxito en un país diferente”.</span></div>

<span style="background-color: black; color: white;">En la categoría de composición musical, los jurados, Bárbara White, profesora de Princeton University; Samuel Adler, del Juilliard School y Johnny L. Pherigo, de la cátedra de música de la University of Central Florida, escogieron la propuesta de Ivette Herryman como la ganadora. Los otros finalistas fueron Armando Bayolo, Evelín Ramón, Carlos Rafael Rivera e Ileana Pérez Velásquez. No todos los finalistas y ganadores estuvieron presentes en la ceremonia oficial de entrega de los premios.</span></div>

<span style="background-color: black; color: white;">En literatura hubo tres contendientes: Carlos A. Aguilera, Armando Correa y Carlos Pintado. Desde Praga, donde reside, tras pasar una larga temporada en Alemania, Aguilera expresó su agradecimiento al conocer que fue el ganador: “No sólo por lo que aporta (a nivel de tiempo y economía) al desarrollo de una obra, sino porque te hace compartir territorio con creadores de la talla de Luis Cruz Azaceta, Baruj Salinas, José Kozer, María Irene Fornés y Carlos Victoria, entre otros”. Afirma que solicitó la beca para completar un libro de relatos, “que a su vez será una reflexión sobre la fascinación que ejercen en determinadas personas eso que los filósofos han llamado la voz del líder, del que pone en práctica alguna idea o delirio”.</span></div>

<span style="background-color: black; color: white;">El jurado lo encabezó Richard Blanco, quien saltó al reconocimiento nacional al leer un poema durante la toma de posesión del presidente Obama y por declamar otro durante la apertura de la embajada de Estados Unidos en Cuba. Los restates jurados fueron el escritor y editor Enrique Fernández y Jacqueline Loss, profesora de español y creación literaria de la Universidad de Connecticut.</span></div>

<span style="background-color: black; color: white;">Unos de los finalistas, el poeta Carlos Pintado, que vive en Miami Beach, y quien recibió el pasado año el Premio Paz de Poesía, importante galardón que otorga The National Poetry Series, por su libro Nueve monedas, publicado en edición bilingüe, inglés-español, reconoce el prestigio de la beca y de la Fundación Cintas. Su proyecto es narrativo. “Llevo meses trabajando en un libro que no sabría decirte si es una novela, en la que cada capítulo tiene su propia independencia, o un libro de cuentos entrelazados. Ocurre en Wausau, un pueblito de Wisconsin, durante una nevada que obliga a una familia (la clásica familia norteamericana) a descubrirse a sí misma. La nieve es la metáfora de un encierro promisorio”. Aunque no recibió el premio, llevará a su fin el libro en el que trabaja.</span></div>
